As the name suggests, Moonstone is strongly connected to moon and to intuition as well. It is also first and foremost a women’s stone, directly associated with the Mother Goddess. It is said that in India, the Moonstone (named Candra Kanta in India) is quite sacred, only permitted to be displayed on a yellow cloth. Moonstone is the opalescent variety of Orthoclase, which is an alkali feldspar. With a blue or white sheen, (referred to as a “schiller”), it has an appearance rather like the shine of the moon, hence it’s name. The sheen is created by the reflection of light from the internal structure of very thin layers of Albite. While the thicker layer of Feldspar is what creates the white color.
Sri Lanka, the classical of origin for Moonstone, is known to shimmer pale blue on an almost transparent ground. Specimens from India, though, show cloudlike plays of light and shade on many other colors such as beige brown, green, orange or simple brown background.

Moonstone should be carried on the person, and discharged among dry tumbled Hematite after menstruation. It is best recharged on the window sill when the moon is full. The most beneficial time would be from moonrise to moonset, and more quickly when in a crystal dish or with crystals nearby.
